CBIZ CMF is a division of CBIZ (NYSE: CBIZ) that focusses on mergers, acquisitions, and transitions for private equity-backed firms across North America.  Our financial due diligence team will complete over 220 buy- and sell-side quality of earnings projects in 2018; we are in the process of developing a tax diligence practice focused on the needs of middle market private equity and are looking for a Tax Managing Director to lead and drive the conversion of tax due diligence engagements and revenue for this service line. We are seeking a proven leader and outstanding communicator to rapidly gain credibility, sell tax due diligence, and manage service delivery into our existing, extensive private equity-backed client base that includes over 200 individual funds. This line of business will sit side-by-side with our financial due diligence team to drive a comprehensive solution to organizations going through transactions.

The Tax Managing Director will also be an integral part of the leadership team, having substantial responsibility and impact in working with the senior team in defining and developing tax diligence strategy, offerings, delivery, and quality control procedures. Additionally, the Tax Managing Director will be able to leverage the technical skills in specific areas (Corporations, LLCs, SALT, International, Labor etc.) of our more than 1200 tax professionals in 20 plus major offices across North America.   

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

  • Develop the tax diligence service strategy, offering details, pricing, staffing, quality control and overall go-to-market plan
  • With the leadership team, drive business development initiatives of this new service line
  • Identify new opportunities and proactively develop leads
  • Develop, manage, and maintain client relationships with private equity firms
  • Assemble and motivate, from the internal CBIZ network, a team to deliver the highest levels of communication, delivery, and practice management
  • Develop relevant thought leadership pieces, speaking engagement opportunities, and other leading edge forums to further strengthen CBIZ CMF’s leadership within private equity
  • Run internal and external mentoring, development, and training courses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience sourcing and delivering on new business within private equity tax due diligence and M&A consulting
  • Demonstrates a high-level of proactivity and can thrive in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Reputation as a “trusted advisor” to client base
  • Extensive business development experience and a strong network within private equity
  • Top-level communicator; client facing, solutions-focused, individual
  • Strategic orientation, yet hands-on, “roll up your sleeves” approach
  • Excellent at multi-tasking and time management
  • Excellent ability to work under pressure
  • Strong technical skills in M&A tax
  • Fifteen plus years of work experience at a public accounting or law firm (CPA or JD)
  • Proven high-level of business integrity
  • Must be able to travel based on business and client needs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Accounting, Taxation or related field preferred
  • 10 years of experience in public accounting or related field
  • 10 years supervisory experience
  • Must have active CPA or equivalent certification
  • Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize each assignment as necessary
  • Proficient use of applicable technology
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
  • Proven high level of business integrity, client service and leadership skills
  • Must be able to travel based on client and business needs
