About this position

Your role as a bookkeeper professional is to help make our California tax clients and our tax partners and tax professionals more efficient with interim and yearend tax client accounting clean up/assistance, and when possible, also improve our tax clients bookkeeping and business management of financials through teaching, coaching and assisting in stabilizing their management accounting practices, reducing their risk, and introducing new business improvement concepts to them.

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

  • Work on multiple clients performing a full range of accounting support duties ranging from
    • Full charge bookkeeping solely performing the month end close including utilizing month end control schedules, journal entry check lists, etc as needed
    • Accounting support duties which may include but not be limited to transaction entries (e.g. sales), expenditures, accruals (if/as needed), etc
    • Performing all or selected regular reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and retained earnings roll forwards
    • Process accounts payable and receivables (if/as appropriate) either manual or with use of automated workflow systems if available
    • If needed assist client with use of an outsourced payroll system and related matters (for example W-2s, etc)
    • Various compliance filings (for example 571s, 1099s, etc)
  • Efficiently prepare and organize work papers and supporting documentation utilizing our documentation methodologies and follow the appropriate closing process(es) and internal preparation requirements
  • Follow our company’s accounting and system internal controls
  • Administer general ledger coding, check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes
  • Utilize QuickBooks (as the primary client-used accounting system) and other accounting systems as needed
  • Ability and willingness to travel (if/as needed) to clients within the local area
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Execute administrative duties if/as assigned
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with full charge bookkeeping for a CPA firm on multiple clients
  • Associate’s degree or higher
  • Experience successfully stepping in to accounting clean up situations
  • Experience transitioning a company into new software(s)
  • Experience in full charge bookkeeping for the contractor, construction and service industries a plus

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • High School Diploma or GED required along with 2 years of full charge bookkeeping experience
  • Exceptional customer relations skills and a track record of working well with others
  • Ability to manage time and deadlines effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of both CBIZ and our clients
  • Proficient use of applicable technology and ability to learn as technology changes
  • Quickly learn and navigate different accounting programs
