The Project Management Office Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing operational and financial information, creating reports and models, and articulating operational results to help drive operational efficiency and effectiveness within the firm’s tax practice division. They will also identify business issues and promote solutions that drive revenue growth, firm profitability, and risk mitigation.

Job Purpose / Objective

  • Conduct quantitative and/or qualitative research of information affecting financial and/or business processes.
  • Interprets findings, prepare reports and formulate recommendations.

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

  • Prepare and deliver descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytical insights as reports, ad-hoc queries, dashboards for operational and management reporting integrating data from tax department and enterprise applications.
  • Coordinate periodic (monthly and/or quarterly) reviews with service line leaders and PMO leadership to interpret financial/operational reports and help develop an in-depth plan to improve unit performance and firm profitability
  • Create and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports and ensure accuracy of information.
  • Identify trends and developments in alignment with performance targets and present findings to PMO leadership.
  • Define and monitor actions coming out of periodic reviews to ensure continuous improvement in initiatives designed to drive firm profitability
  • Train local office tax leadership on the use of business intelligence reporting tools which enable them to proactively manage key operational metrics
  • Applies data visualization, descriptive and summary statistical techniques for discovery and timely insights (data exploration, ad-hoc queries, and analysis).
  • Leverage internal and external data sources to gather relevant benchmarks for the CPA firm industry and specifically the tax function

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA and CPA preferred but not essential
  • Proficient use of applicable technology (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau)
  • CPA firm or similar professional services experience
  • Knowledge of the tax business & applications
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity with a passion for developing and analyzing large, complex data sets and converting them into information/insights. 
  • Ability to work independently, manage small projects or parts of large projects
  • Must be comfortable working independently or as part of a team

Expertise in building data visualizations with a strong understanding of the appropriate chart types to use to highlight patterns in the data for unstructured and structured data sets

Qualifications Required

  • HS diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Statistics or relevant field preferred
  • 3 years of relevant experience
  • Must possess analytical skills
  • Must be able to comprehend, manipulate and interpret statistical data
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
  • Proficient use of applicable technology
