Roles & Responsibilities

  • Timely and accurate completion of state regulatory surplus lines tax filings.
  • Be responsible for multistate surplus lines state tax returns and licensing compliance using approved state forms and creates corresponding check request for payment of surplus lines tax.
  • Reconciles state filings with open payable report prior to submitting check requests.
  • Conducts compliance and quality review on documents associated with a surplus lines tax filing. If documents are not correct, coordinates with the CBIZ business locations to make appropriate corrections to ensure timely filings.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with CBIZ business locations regarding surplus lines taxes.
  • Communicates with state insurance departments to ensure proper statutory compliance with applicable surplus lines laws and codes.
  • Assists CBIZ Legal Division and associates with researching and interpreting state regulations pertaining to surplus lines tax filings and other insurance licensing related matters.
  • Proved ability to independently investigate, research, and resolve issues.
  • Work closely with CBIZ Licensing Coordinators to ensure individuals are properly licensed to transact surplus lines business.
  • Utilization of on-line systems to retrieve and deliver reports and documentation.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma of GED; Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Proficient use of applicable technology (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external clients and develop strong relationships.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver timely and accurate work products with customer service focus and respond with sense of urgency as required.
  • Working knowledge of commercial property/casualty coverage and/or insurance licensing preferred but not required.
  • Possess an exceptional attention to detail.
  • An aptitude for mathematical calculations including multiplication, division and percentages.
  • Demonstrated understanding of when to proceed alone and when to involve the Manager or other Associates.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate the Internet.
