Position Description:

The Loss Control Executive (Engineer / Consultant) supports our commercial lines client service and new business teams in selling CBIZ’s expertise, capabilities and Property / Casualty insurance programs to large and middle-market sized businesses, and in providing service after the sale.  Before any insurance companies inspect a client’s facilities, the LCE helps our customers identify their potential risks, exposures and any deficiencies present so that such problems can be addressed and rectified before insurance companies decline to quote (or quote higher premiums).  By assisting our clients in creating, augmenting and implementing “best-practice” safety and risk management programs, the LCE helps our clients gain recognition from the insurance company marketplace that their company is a “best-in-class” risk and deserving of their most competitive premiums and coverage offerings.

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

​The primary responsibilities of the LCE fall into four main service areas:

1. Sales Team Support / Presentations   Supporting our sales efforts, the LCE regularly joins in presentations to our prospects and helps to articulate our loss control value proposition including, how we help ensure their safety programs and risk reduction initiatives are properly controlling their costs, making them highly attractive to insurance companies.   2. Pre-Inspection Services  - Client Preparation For Carrier Inspections   Prior to presenting our client’s insurance opportunity to the marketplace for quotes and before insurance companies inspect their facilities, the LCE ensures our customers are properly prepared.  By helping clients identify their potential risks, exposures and any deficiencies in their current safety and risk reduction programs, the LCE can rectify problems before insurance companies might decline to quote or quote higher premiums.  The LCE supports our clients in creating and implementing “best-in-class” safety and risk mitigation programs, making their insurance opportunity far more attractive to potential insurance companies.
  • Schedules and conducts “pre-inspections” of the facilities and operations of CBIZ commercial lines insurance clients or prospects.
  • Provides a verbal and written report which recommends improvements to help make a client (or prospective client) more attractive to insurance company inspectors.
  • Assists clients or prospective clients in implementing any recommended risk mitigation and safety improvement plans or techniques.
3. Oversight of Insurance Company (Loss Control) Service Delivery   After insurers are selected, the LCE oversees the regular loss control safety engineering services provided by insurance companies to make certain our clients are receiving the full value for their premium dollar for those services.  The LCE mediates any disputes over mandatory improvements or safety upgrades that insurance companies may require and/or helps identify mutually acceptable and less costly alternatives.
  • Reviews any insurance company (mandatory) recommendations and works with clients or prospects to implement them or proposes mutually acceptable alternatives.
  • Follows up on the status of all recommendations through their resolution on behalf of the CBIZ Account Manager, insurance carrier and client.
  • Intercedes and satisfactorily resolves and loss control engineering related dispute between an insurance carrier and CBIZ client.
  • Participates in and ensures that all loss control providers fulfil their obligations under each client’s Client Service Stewardship plan.
  • Provides client advocacy services on all loss control / safety engineering issues.
4. Directly Performs and Provides Professional Services   For certain clients, the LCE may directly provide, develop and implement loss control prevention, compliance and safety services on a fee-for-service basis.
  • Supplements the loss control and safety engineering services provided to CBIZ clients by their insurance carrier(s), or if none is provided – directly provides required services.
  • Offers and provides “fee-for-service” consulting services to large CBIZ clients or non-clients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional engineering, safety consulting and/or insurance designations are a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Insurance Risk Management or related field (or equivalent training)
  • 10 or more years’ technical experience providing loss control engineering and/or safety consulting services for the facilities and operations of commercial lines insurance buyers
  • Superior presentation, negotiation and relationship building skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills and strong detail orientation with the ability to see the big picture 
  • Strong time management discipline and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, regardless of complexity
  • Drive, determination and a competitive nature are essential
  • Must possess a strong sense of urgency, demonstrate a willingness to hold themselves and others accountable and be committed to achieving success in their own career

Minimum Qualifications

  • ​High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 5 years of loss control related experience
  • Must maintain current required licenses and certifications relevant to field of expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
  • Advanced customer service skills
  • Proficient use of applicable technology
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize multiple responsibilities
