The Senior Benefit Specialist's main objective is to support the servicing and retention of Defined Benefit outsourcing clients and provide analytical support. 

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

•    Administer Defined Benefit processes such as requests for retirement/ disability/ estimate packages, death processing, trustee maintenance (data entry or review, and/or reconciliation),       data feed maintenance, and periodic reporting
•    Resolve escalations from the Service Center such as plan participant concerns, payroll errors, plan provision questions, and administrative nuances
•    Complete Defined Benefit plan functions such as the preparation of plan specification documents, benefit calculations, and the preparation of valuation census files 
•    Coordinate professionally with third-party vendors
•    Read and interpret Defined Benefit pension plan documents or administrative guidance materials as they relate to administration of the plan
•    Perform or review benefit calculations requiring plan expertise and basic knowledge of actuarial concepts
•    Assist in identifying areas where process improvements can increase the efficiency and effectiveness of service to clients
•    Support audit functions and respond to auditor questions 
•    Administer Qualified Domestic Relations Orders
•    Assist with the writing and execution of basic SQL functions (select, insert, update)
•    Adhere to internal quality assurance standards
•    May attend offsite and onsite client meetings, as applicable
•    Additional responsibilities as assigned

Preferred Qualifications 

•    Basic understanding of SQL including writing basic queries and interpreting stored procedures and functions
•    Bachelor’s degree 
•    Experience in building and tracking automated administrative processes using Case Management system(s)
•    Experience as primary contact for client day-to-day relationships
•    Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED  
  • At least five years of professional, benefits administration experience
  • Possesses advanced knowledge and understanding of industry and professional concepts, principles, practices, and procedures
  • Possesses expert knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, and professional standards
  • Expert use of applicable technology
  • Proficient use of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and enterprise communication and travel solutions (Concur, Skype)
  • Experience performing work that requires initiative and leadership skills
  • Experience in coaching and teaching others 
  • Ability to anticipate and elicit customer needs
  • Ability to self-learn and develop business and technical knowledge quickly 
  • Motivated team player with demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working with quick turnaround times and deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Capacity to adapt and work effectively within a variety of situations, and with various individuals or groups
  • Display innovative ideas and solutions and capacity to identify and eliminate redundant work efforts and inefficient processes
  • Ability to provide technical leadership to staff
