We are seeking a Payroll Specialist in our Kansas City office. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for performing all payroll functions in an accurate, thorough and confidential manner for business units.    

Essential Functions and Primary Duties:

  • Initiate efficient communications to staff in pursuit of relevant payroll documentation per pay period
  • Compile all payroll documentation to include compensation revisions, permissible payroll deductions, and garnishments 
  • Provide input to help continuing development of processes and procedures for payroll processing
  • Interpret and assure compliance of CBIZ policies and government regulations affecting payroll processing
  • Complete payroll worksheet and enter data into payroll system per pay period
  • Serve as payroll liaison between staff and vendor working to resolve questions
  • Produce reports per pay period and submit to controller for post-payroll audit
  • File payroll documentation in payroll binders or in personnel files as appropriate
  • Assist internal and external clients with requests and problems in a timely manner
  • Notify necessary parties ensuring accuracy of appropriate data
  • Research and accurately resolve clients’ service needs according to established commitments and standards
  • Work to understand department processes, procedures, and/or programs
  • Assist with new hire training and ongoing internal training as needed
  • Support internal employee questions and act as mentor for less experienced employees
  • Effectively operate department hardware and software
  • Comply with internal controls and procedures
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School Education or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll processing, accounting and payroll tax filing procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, exercising independent judgment and act with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of the organization, both internally and externally
  • Excellent customer relation skills
  • Proficient use of applicable technology 
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn CBIZ payroll system
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and pay close attention to detail on many, varied tasks
  • Able to maintain confidential information
