Essential Functions and Primary Duties: 

  • Timely and accurate completion of state regulatory surplus lines tax filings
  • Be responsible for multi-state surplus lines state tax returns and licensing compliance using approved state forms and creates corresponding check request for payment of surplus lines tax
  • Reconciles state filings with open payable report prior to submitting check requests
  • Conducts compliance and quality review on documents associated with a surplus lines tax filing. If documents are not correct, coordinates with the CBIZ business locations to make appropriate corrections to ensure timely filings
  • Maintains open lines of communication with CBIZ business locations regarding surplus lines taxes
  • Communicates with state insurance departments to ensure proper statutory compliance with applicable surplus lines laws and codes
  • Assists CBIZ Legal Division and associates with researching and interpreting state regulations pertaining to surplus lines tax filings and other insurance licensing related matters
  • Proved ability to independently investigate, research, and resolve issues
  • Work closely with CBIZ Licensing Coordinators to ensure individuals are properly licensed to transact surplus lines business
  • Utilization of on-line systems to retrieve and deliver reports and documentation
  • Perform all other duties as assigned



Preferred Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of commercial property/casualty coverage and/or insurance licensing 
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver timely and accurate work products with customer service focus and respond with sense of urgency as required
  • Possess an exceptional attention to detail
  • An aptitude for mathematical calculations including multiplication, division and percentages
  • Demonstrated understanding of when to proceed alone and when to involve the Manager or other Associates
  • Strong Excel experience
  • Obtain SILA certification within one year 



Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree or two years of experience on a specialized subject matter 
  • Must maintain current required licenses and certifications relevant to field of expertise
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
  • Effective customer service skills
  • Proficient use of applicable technology (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize multiple responsibilities
